Home is Where the Heart Is

We had a fantastic holiday at Wilson's Promontory! As we were driving into the park, there was a kangaroo standing on the side of the road watching the cars go by. Soon after, we were overcome with views of the ocean peeking through the mountains. The campsites were a bit small and almost on top of the adjacent sites, but the scenery and wildlife made up for it. Kookaburas cackled constantly, roselas swooped and sat on our knees. We took a hike to Squeaky Beach - the sand squeaks when you walk on it! It is the most beautiful beach I have ever seen. One night we took a walk and looked for nocturnal creatures. We found about 20 kangaroos hanging out, eating, and hopping around. We also found several possums either walking on the ground or hanging in the trees. Unfortunately we didn't run into any wombats. On our last day, we took a hike up one of the mountains and we saw SNAKES!!! They would be sunbathing on the path and when we got near they slithered away. Were they the poisonous kind? Yes, but they will only attack you if you go after them. (I had to remind myself of this a few times.) All in all, it was a great time!

KANGAROO JACKIE

She is still a little monster, but she loves it here. Lately she has made a couple great escapes and wandered around the neighborhood. Luckily she either knows how to cross the street or the cars have slowed down for her. Jackie is at her happiest when on walks, in the backseat of the car, or at the beach. She also loves to be close to her humans. We get the saddest look from her when we leave her at home! If only she would stop shedding...

WORK-A-BURRA

Change is in store for 2006! Lachlan has been offered a full-time Graphic Design position with the Trading Post starting at the end of March. He will probably take it since there haven't been any other job openings lately. The commute is a pain, but he does like working there. The photo is from our dress rehearsal of La Traviata at the end of January. We performed at the De Bortoli Winery, an absolutely beautiful setting. See the lady with the big hair? I sit behind her and struggle to see the conductor (the little head on the right edge of the photo). And I have three times as many students as I had last term! One of the violin teachers decided to move to Europe, and the other one has stopped teaching on Saturdays. So I have picked up the slack, and I now have 24 students. I have also been asked to teach at another school, but they only have 3 students interested at the moment. I'll have to decide whether or not it's worth the commute. With our new job prospects, we are now thinking about saving up to buy an apartment!
