Rolling Along

Skye and I are getting very excited about our upcoming trip to the States! Actually, she doesn't really know that she's going anywhere, but she'll know soon enough. We'll have lots of plane time together. First leg: Melbourne to Auckland NZ, about 3.5 hours. Second leg: Auckland to LA, about 12 hours. Third leg: LA to Chicago, about 4.5 hours. I hope I'm not known as "that dreadful woman with that horrible screaming baby" on our flights...

It will be great to see friends and family and to introduce Skye to everyone. She is moving herself around with her arms, but the legs haven't learned how to turn it into a crawl yet. She sits on her own and rolls over from back to tummy. She is also doing something that looks like the triangle pose in yoga...hard to explain... But I think it's safe to say that she will try to get into absolutely everything once she can crawl.

Chelsea has had a busy month, learning tennis and swimming at school. She also had her first school concert where her class performed the song "Be a Clown" (see the photos). It was very entertaining, and I could hear her voice all the way in the back of the hall. Chelsea also created a book for a district-wide science project called "Fur, Fins, and Feathers." Her book was awarded the best of the district for her grade level and she received a nice award and some science goodies for her efforts. We were very proud of her.

As for me, I played in the final opera for the Melbourne Opera Company's 2008 season, "I Puritani." It was a fantastic experience as we had the former conductor of the Victorian State Opera company as our conductor. He was the utmost professional and lifted us all to a new level of performing. Our tenor had to cope with not only a high "D" but also a high "F" at the very end! I'm sorry, but men are just not meant to sing that high. The only gigs left this year are a few Messiah performances.

Lachlan and I celebrated our 3 year wedding anniversary last week. We had a nice evening, eating Thai take away and renting a movie. Oh, how life changes when you have kids! Well, I'll leave it at that. Happy Halloween and don't forget to vote!
