And Many More...

Today, October 23rd, 2006 marks our first wedding anniversary. It’s a great feeling to have survived one year of marriage in a new environment. We’ve had our moments, but our love and commitment are strong as ever. I’m so happy that I came out here with Lachlan. Even though I miss “home,” my life has become enriched from living in Australia. I feel very blessed.

We celebrated yesterday because today is a workday – by the time he gets home I’ll have left for rehearsal. So we had a barbeque picnic at the Catani Gardens where we got married. Jackie came along and patiently waited for handouts of chicken satay skewers. We also had crackers with a trio of dips and a beautiful bottle of champagne. Then we went into the
rotunda (gazebo) to the exact spot where we said “I do.” It was a very romantic moment. I’ll spare you the details.

Afterwards we took a walk along the beach and Jackie had a splish splash. What a perfect day it was! I know you’re wondering about gifts. Lachlan gave me a fabulous pair of earrings from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and I gave him a yoga book. We did very well! Looking forward to next October 23rd already.

Some of the highlights from our first year of marriage are: buying tons of candy for Halloween and having no trick or treaters, making friends with another couple that lived in Wisconsin, a hot Christmas, camping at Wilson’s Promontory National Park after Christmas, a sweltering hot New Year’s Eve, being taken to the best restaurant in town for my birthday, riding first class on Puffing Billy, the road trip to Canberra, our trip to the snow at Lake Mountain, beautiful Brisbane, and finally finding the home of our dreams.

And luckily, we have been able to work through any problems that we have had. It takes lots of understanding, the ability to forgive, but most of all, time. Whoever said, “time heals all wounds” was brilliant. What has kept your relationship going strong? Give us your recipe for success! Speaking of recipe, I’d better start making dinner…
